Religious Networking against Human Trafficking

The International Union of Women Superiors General (UISG) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), an intergovernmental organization with 125 member states, held a Congress on Religious Networking against Human Trafficking, June 18-21, 2009 at the De La Salle Brothers’ Institute in Rome. Sr. Bernadette Sangma, F.M.A., a member of the Salesian Family consultative body, was one of the organizers of the Congress.

Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity. It involves an act of recruiting, transporting, transfering, harbouring or receiving a person through a use of force, coercion or other means, for the purpose of exploiting them.

Every country in the world is affected by trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims.

India - Training on Sexual Health of Street Children - Don Bosco Anbu Illam

There was a training on the Sexual Health of Street Children at MKB Nagar for 20 children of Salesian shelter homes at MKB Nagar, Royapuram, Katpadi & Villupuram, September 11-13, 2008.

Austria - The Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking

With the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) accreditation the Salesians are able to participate in the forums and conferences in all of the major UN Centers worldwide. Fr. Meinolf von Spee, the head of Don Bosco International is representing Salesians at the `Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking`, taking place from February 13-15, 2008.
