India — Seminar on Micro-Enterprising
(Tiruchy) On August 2, 2011, the Rural Commission of the Tiruchy province held a one day seminar on Self Help Groups and Micro-enterprising at Don Bosco Provincial House. Twenty enthusiastic young priests participated and reaffirmed their option for those living in poverty in rural areas. They recommitted themselves also to the motto of the Rural Commission: Vilimbuhal Maiyamaha - let the periphery become the center.

India — Seminar on Local Resource Mobilization
Given the present global financial situation, more and more sources of funding from foreign countries are drying up. In response to this, the Salesians conducted a seminar to help engender a sense of responsibility among local communities and to train members of the Salesian Family to solicit local funding and resources. Fr. Jose Palely, S.D.B reminded the participants about the difficulties regarding foreign aid.

India — Salesian Priest Fights for the Cause of Workers
(Gujarat) A Salesian priest in Gujarat has taken up the cause of hundreds of workers who have not been paid their earned wages from a work project.
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), in force since August 2005, provides a legal guarantee to adult members of any rural household, a minimum wage of rupees 100 per day (US $2) for one hundred days of employment in every financial year.The workers should be paid within 15 days of the completion of the work.

Chile – The Institute in Copiapó Signs Agreement with 50 Local Businesses
(Copiapó) On April 13, 2010, in Don Bosco Hall of the Salesian Industrial School in Copiago, Chile, the Salesians signed an agreement with a consortium of 50 local businesses forming the Corporation for the Productive Development of Atacama (CORPROA). This agrement commits the partners to collaborate in the technical formation of the students and ease their entrance into the workforce. This represents a commitment to provide education that prepares young people for the world of work and who are well-prepared and ready to make their contribution to society.
